At our museum in downtown Byesville, we offer a great opportunity to learn about our local history with our "Coal Miners Story".  Our narrators, dressed as old-time coal miners, describe what it was like to work underground in the deep mines that once existed in our area. Our coal miners explain how the miners worked to mine the coal, and what the working conditions were like underground. They will show actual coal mining tools and relics from the early 1900's, such as picks, shovels, augers, tamping bars, copper needles, miner's check tags and carbide lamps. Our coal miners will also talk about the coal miner's life at home as well as their traditions and customs.
